Sinapali, Nuapada: A series of alleged theft incidents in the Nilji area under Sinapali Police Station in Nuapada district has triggered concern among local residents. From household water pumps to equipment belonging to drinking water projects and installations along the Biju Expressway, several items have reportedly been stolen, raising questions about the safety of public and private property. Suspecting the involvement of an active theft gang, residents have urged the police to investigate the incidents and take stringent action against those responsible.
According to local sources, more than six water pumps have reportedly been stolen from the Nilji area over the past six months. In addition, electrical connection wires, sending plates and other materials associated with drinking water projects have allegedly been stolen. Signboards, iron poles and solar lights installed along the Biju Expressway have also reportedly gone missing.
The repeated thefts have heightened public concern, particularly over the security of essential infrastructure and government property. Residents fear that continued incidents could cause inconvenience to the public and affect the functioning of drinking water facilities.
In one such incident, a water pump belonging to Pabitra Pradhan of Nilji village was reportedly stolen on July 11. He subsequently lodged a written complaint at Sinapali Police Station. In another incident, a motorcycle was reportedly stolen during a Nuakhai Bhetghat programme held at Kharsel last Friday, adding to concerns over the increasing frequency of thefts in the area.
Residents have expressed dissatisfaction over the recurring incidents and called for immediate police intervention. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the reported thefts, identification of the culprits, recovery of stolen property and legal action against those found responsible.
The locals have also urged Sinapali police to intensify patrolling in Nilji and adjoining areas to prevent further incidents and restore public confidence. Residents are now awaiting concrete action from the police to curb the alleged theft activities and ensure the safety of their property and public infrastructure.
