Four Liquor Outlets Near Hospital and School Spark Protest Threat in Gidhmal: Villagers Demand Immediate Closure, Warn of Road Blockade if Action Is Delayed
SINAPALI: Villagers of Gidhmal under Hatibandha Gram Panchayat in Sinapali block of Nuapada district have demanded the immediate closure of four liquor outlets operating in the village. They have alleged that the presence of liquor outlets near a hospital and a school is creating concern over public safety and disturbing the social environment. According to the villagers, one liquor outlet run by Uddhav Meher is located in front of the hospital, while another allegedly run by Gaur Meher is also situated in front of the hospital. A third outlet, allegedly operated by Gobinda Bhoi, is located behind the hospital, while the fourth, allegedly run by Dingar Nag, is situated behind the Nodal School. The villagers claim that crowds of intoxicated persons and incidents of nuisance are frequently witnessed around these places. The location of the outlets near the hospital and school has particularly raised concerns regarding the safety of women, girls and schoolchildren. Villagers also alleged that excessive drinking is contributing to disturbances in the locality and could have an adverse impact on the younger generation. They have urged the authorities to verify the allegations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. The villagers have reportedly informed the Sinapali police station about the issue. They said the police assured them that necessary action would be taken. However, they alleged that when they approached the Excise Department to submit a complaint, the office was found locked and no official was available even after they waited for a considerable period. The villagers have demanded an immediate inspection of all four liquor outlets and appropriate legal action if violations are found. They have also sought a permanent solution to the alleged problems arising from liquor sales near the hospital and school. The villagers have warned that if the administration and Excise Department fail to take prompt action, they will unite and launch a protest on the road. The matter has now drawn attention in the area, with residents awaiting the authorities’ response.
