*50 Kanwariyas Crawl Nearly a Kilometre from Udanti River to Sinapali Shiva Temple*
SINAPALI: The last Monday of the holy month of Shravan witnessed a remarkable display of faith and devotion in Sinapali block of Nuapada district, as around 50 Kanwariyas undertook an unusual pilgrimage from the banks of the Udanti River to the Shiva Temple at Sinapali.
Carrying sacred water from the Udanti River, the devotees crawled nearly one kilometre on the road as part of their religious vow. Chanting “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam”, they made their way towards the temple with unwavering devotion, despite the physical hardship involved.
The Kanwariyas, mostly from Kapsi village, first gathered near the Udanti River, where they performed prayers and rituals before collecting the sacred water. Carrying the water-filled Kanwariyas on their shoulders, they then began their journey towards the Sinapali Shiva Temple.
The most striking part of the pilgrimage was the sight of the devotees crawling on their knees for nearly a kilometre. Although the journey caused physical exhaustion, their determination remained undiminished. With the name of Lord Shiva on their lips and a firm resolve in their hearts, they continued towards the temple to offer the sacred water to Mahadev.
The spiritual atmosphere intensified as villagers gathered along both sides of the road. Women and men encouraged the devotees with conch shells, bells and traditional ululation. The continuous chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam” filled the surroundings with a deeply devotional ambience.
After completing the arduous journey, the Kanwariyas finally reached the Sinapali Shiva Temple and performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva with the sacred water collected from the Udanti River. The temple premises reverberated with devotional chants as the devotees offered prayers for the happiness, peace, health and prosperity of their families, loved ones and society.
The unique pilgrimage was not merely a religious procession but a powerful expression of the devotees’ deep faith, spiritual commitment and determination. Their willingness to endure physical hardship to fulfil their vow touched the hearts of many onlookers.
The remarkable journey of the Kapsi Kanwariyas added a special spiritual fervour to the last Monday of Shravan in Sinapali. Their extraordinary act of devotion, marked by faith, discipline and sacrifice, became a memorable sight for the local community and reflected the deep-rooted religious traditions of the region.
