New Spl. Land Acquisition & Rehabilitation Resettlement Officer Welcomed by Lower Indra Jan Kalyan Sangathan
The newly joined Special Land Acquisition-cum-Rehabilitation and Resettlement Officer was accorded a warm welcome and felicitation by the Lower Indra Jan Kalyan Sangathan, Dumerbahal. Members of the organisation presented a bouquet to the officer and held a detailed discussion on the long-pending problems faced by people affected by the Lower Indra Irrigation Project. During the interaction, the organisation drew the officer’s attention to various issues concerning the residents of 30 displaced and project-affected villages under the Lower Indra Irrigation Project. The representatives urged the officer to take necessary steps for the early resolution of issues relating to rehabilitation, resettlement, land acquisition, compensation and other pending demands of the affected families. The organisation members highlighted that several families who had sacrificed their land, homes and livelihood for the project are still awaiting proper resolution of their grievances. They appealed to the administration to take concrete measures so that the legitimate concerns of the displaced and affected people could be addressed at the earliest. Responding to the concerns, the newly appointed officer patiently heard the issues raised by the organisation and assured the representatives that the matters would be examined seriously. The officer also expressed willingness to take appropriate steps towards resolving the genuine problems of the affected people in accordance with the applicable provisions and administrative procedures. The organisation members welcomed the positive response from the officer and expressed hope that the long-standing issues of the displaced and project-affected families would receive due attention and speedy resolution. On the occasion, Lower Indra Jan Kalyan Sangathan, Dumerbahal president Gaurang Jagat, secretary Harihar Behera, vice-president Nirakar Bag, treasurer Rajkishore Barik, and members Kashyap Jagat, Indu Kaibarta, Tebavati Deep, Kanti Chhatriya and Kuntala Bemal were present. The interaction between the organisation and the newly joined officer is being viewed as a positive step towards strengthening coordination between the affected people and the administration and addressing their long-pending rehabilitation and resettlement concerns.
