Murram surface deteriorates within days of completion; quality of culverts also comes under scrutiny

Sinapali, July 4 A rural development project funded with public money has come under the scanner once again, with serious questions being raised over the quality of construction and transparency in execution. The Chatiaguda–Badabeda murram road and two culverts, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹9.75 lakh under Chatiaguda Gram Panchayat in Sinapali Block of Nuapada district, have become the subject of growing public concern following allegations of poor workmanship. According to local residents, the murram surface has started peeling off at several locations within just a few days of the completion of the work. In some stretches, the road has reportedly sunk, making it difficult for commuters to use. Villagers have also questioned the quality and construction standards of the two culverts built along the road, alleging that prescribed engineering norms may not have been properly followed. The allegations have sparked concerns over the durability of the project. Residents argue that a public infrastructure project executed at such a significant cost should not deteriorate within such a short period. They have therefore demanded an impartial technical inspection to ascertain whether the work was carried out in accordance with government guidelines and approved quality standards. Another issue raised by the villagers relates to the project’s implementation timeline. They claim that although the work has been shown as part of the 2023–24 financial year, it was actually executed during 2025–26, raising questions about the administrative process and execution of the project. Villagers have further alleged that the work was carried out under the supervision of Sanjib Patra, the husband of the Sarpanch. However, these allegations have not been officially verified by the administration. No response could be obtained from Sanjib Patra or any other concerned party despite efforts to seek their version. Their response, if received, will be published accordingly. Residents maintain that if the allegations are found to be true, the issue extends beyond the construction of a village road and concerns the proper utilisation of public funds, accountability, and transparency in developmental works. They have demanded a high-level, independent technical inquiry into the entire project and urged the authorities to initiate strict legal action against any individual or official found responsible for irregularities. The issue has now become a matter of widespread discussion across the Sinapali area, with public attention focused on what action the district administration will take in response to the allegations and whether a detailed investigation will be initiated.
